Cross stitch rose keyring

Well it's taken me a while, but I am finally please to present my finished cross stitch keyring!

If you've not seen it before it was a free kit that came with Cross Stitcher issue #264 and instagram seemed alive with a frenzy of people stitching it the week the magazine dropped on everyone's doormats.

I can't be doing with seeing the messy side of things, although the back of my work is usually fairly good, so I decided to stitch a circle of felt onto the back to tidy things up and add a personalised touch.

I'd heard a lot of people were short changed when it came to the blue thread so I stitched the background in 3 strands instead of the suggested 4, and I've got loads left! So if you're reading this and were one of the ones who came up short leave me comment and I'll happily post what I've got left to you.

Going into hybernation

aLittleBlonde - Thumb-splodge biscuits

Hello! I just wanted to drop by quickly to say hi and to apologise for my sporadic posting over the next few weeks. Yesterday was my last official day of contact time at uni, so now I've just got three weeks off in which to finish off my dissertation and other bits of coursework and then I'll be all done! How scary is that? Those three years have gone so quickly, yet it seems like I've been at uni forever.

I can however promise that, although I may be away from my blog a little more than usual, I'll still have lots to share when I get the time. For example these rather yummy biscuits which I'm in the process of perfecting. I'm also working on a 22 before 22 update which I'll hopefully put up over the weekend as I have a day off(!!!) booked into my study schedule on Sunday.

So bye for now and hope to see you soon,

Alex - aLittleBlonde

PS You can still find me hanging around on twitter and instagram whilst I'm away. I find thy are great sources of procrastination!

It's a new project

I've been getting itchy fingers to make something recently and with an awful lot of uni work looming ahead of me I felt a real need to start a project I could use to relax and regain my sanity from time to time. And so on Easter Saturday a new project began...

...and grew fairly quickly...

I saw the design in cross stitcher 261 and thought it would look great in the wall of hoop art that I am planning for my room.

I'm quite liking the monochrome look, but once I've finished filling in the frame it will be time to add some colour.

I don't usually go for things with words or phrases because I find them a bit cheesy, but this seemed kind of apt at the moment as I finish my degree.

Plus every time I look at it I seem to find myself singing "It's a new dawn, it's a new day, a new liiiiife ... fo-or-or meeeeee! ... bum, ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum" etc etc, and who doesn't need a little Nina Simone (or indeed Michael Buble) in their life from time to time?

Hellocotton

Deary me, first google reader and now Hellocotton too! It appears Hellocotton is destined for the scrap heap as well now after a message went up on the website in the last couple of days explaining that they are due to close, although exactly when doesn't appear to have been decided yet.

So, apologies for yet another shameless plug, but if you are currently using Hellocotton to read this post then can I please urge you to make the move over to either Bloglovin' or Feedly (or any other reader!) to avoid loosing contact with all the blogs you follow.

I hope everyone is having a good week and not suffering too much from a post-Easter food hangover, I know I certainly feel like I've put on a stone in just one weekend!

March 2013

February was a fairly quiet month with hours spent watching the Big Bang theory and Friends as I processed participants for the study I am running for my dissertation. Alas the deadlines are looming and 6 weeks from now I will just about be handing it all in and finishing uni. How scary is that?

At the beginning of the month my choir, Brighton Festival Chorus, had a concert which I baked up a storm for to try and entice some of the members to participate in my dissertation study. The cakey theme continued with my and varied tea and cake study breaks as well as a trip to Glyndebourne to see a new community opera (simply stunning!) and a trip home which involved snuggles with the puppy and a vesuvial rice pudding.

Towards the middle of the month Charlie tortoise woke up for spring (and appears to have taken one look out the window and gone back into hibernation!) and I got into the #PostCircle swing of things whilst continuing to bake my heart out and cook yummy meals to make the uni workload more bearable. I also indulged in a little cross stitch and in the last few days started a new project which I'll be sharing soon. There were of course more snuggles with a very sleepy squishy puppy.

What have you been up to this month? If you've done a roundup too please do leave me a link, I'd love to see.
